2011 Christmas In Natchez — Lighting Of The Tree

There is nothing more grand than Christmas time in Natchez, Mississippi. Once the home of over several hundred millionaires of the Civil War era, Natchez boasts the southern charm of antebellum architecture and the mixture of Christmas galore. The only thing missing is a constant snowfall to create the perfect scene of a Thomas Kinkade fine art print.

The day after Thanksgiving marks the beginning of Christmas in Natchez, MS. The official lighting of the town's Christmas tree takes place during the evening hours. The town's main street is blocked so that holiday tourists and townspeople can enjoy the festive event. Christmas carols are played and restaurants dish out delicious plates of steaks and burgers.

At 7:00pm CST, the Christmas tree was lit. The tree stands at the intersection of Main and Commerce Street. It blocks most of the intersection, but motorists have learned to just make their way around it to access the bluff area towards Canal Street.

This long exposure shot is a glimpse down Main Street towards Canal St. At the time, the traffic barriers were about to be lifted and I had to move away from the street area. During the shot, I moved the camera and it created an artistic effect.
