A Natchez Bluff Sunset Over The Great Flood Of 2011

A Natchez, Mississippi sunset is quite common for the locals and perhaps for visitors, but there's one thing that makes a Natchez sunset quite different this year; The Great Flood of 2011. Capturing a sunset over the Mississippi River is one thing, but capturing the same image during a historic event is another. So, that's what I set out to do. I first traveled to the Natchez National Cemetery to see the flags on the soldier's graves since it was Memorial Day. After which, my first river shot took place on the north side of the city bluffs.

Historic antebellum and Victorian homes line the river bluff, far above the Mississippi River's flooding fury. Across the river, Vidalia, Louisiana isn't as lucky as flood waters pound upon the riverfront. Natchez, though, was safe from the impeding waters. The Natchez-Vidalia Bridge is visible, connecting Natchez, Mississippi from the left to Vidalia, Louisiana to the right.
